Produced by AKIZAKURA
https://akizakura.net/
AKIZAKURA produces and sells parasols, fans, bags, hats, and other items using vintage kimono fabrics.
This time, we produced a tote bag with a kimono pocket, using a kimono and a kimono obi as a single point of reference, in order for people to enjoy upcycling kimono in a more casual way. By introducing the good old Japanese 'Re=regeneration' culture to people in Japan and abroad, we hope to nurture a 'heart to treasure things' and a 'heart to love things' in people all over the world, and to increase the number of people with a rich heart.

■What is "upcycling"?
"Upcycle" is to recycle in such a way that the resulting product is of a higher value than the original item. In today's world, it is gaining attention as a sustainable approach.
We create various products using repurposed Japanese beautiful Kimono fabric. We make the life of people all over the world beautiful with the kimono upcycle.

In edo period, Kimono has been worn for many years, being untied, washed, and tailored over and over again. And still those that could no longer be worn were remodeled as a kimono for children, baby 's diapers, and thong of clogs (Japanese sandals and Geta).
The Japanese people had a mentality of valuing things because they believed that things had a life of their own. And when people have this mentality, their hearts are rich. AKIZAKURA is working on "upcycling" to enrich the minds of people all over the world.

■Why Kimono?
Japanese have wore Kimono for a long time. Kimonos as we know them today came into being during the Heian period (794-1192). However nowadays, those are not used and just left in the closet. It is said that the amount of the clothes is 800 million pieces.

We take over the Kimono from grandmother to mother, mother to daughter. So we cannot throw away, we cannot sell in affordable price either. Can you throw away such a valuable clothes that has a strong tie with your family?
Furthermore, kimono is one of Japanese traditional crafts, and as professional craftsmen carefully make them piece by piece using skills handed down since the old time. You can feel the deep attraction by being conscious of its features and process to make. kimono described as a "wearable art form", because they are much more than just a piece of "clothing".
We want to leave the kimono made by craftsmanship to future generations..
